So dynamic and so rhythmical!
The freedom in arranging music for Yosakoi Dance has allowed the festival's
popularity to spread from Kochi throughout the entire country. Using
Naruko, a necessary wooden instrument for the dance, and the tune
of Yosakoi Naruko as the music base, the dance can be freely created.
During the hot summer days, people arrange the music and choreography while practicing hard for the event.
With groups of dancers wearing matching costumes and full makeup for the festival, the whole of downtown Kochi spectacularly explodes with excitement for four days starting from August 9th.
On the evening of the 12th, the national competition for Yosakoi Dance is held as the closing festival. Dance teams from all over Japan come together in the birthplace of Yosakoi, and compete in the powerful dance with the award-winning teams in Kochi.
