ŸThe World's Largest Bronze Tanuki
|
 |
|
A lovable bronze figure
of a tanuki, or Japanese raccoon, sits in Komatsushima City Station
Park in Tokushima Prefecture. This is the largest raccoon figure in
the world, being five meters in height and weighing five tons. There
is also a real old-fashioned locomotive in this park which is a well-used
recreational area for local residents.
This raccoon is called "Kincho Tanuki", and is a very famous member of the Japanese tanuki family. Kincho Tanuki appears in the animation film "Heisei Tanuki Gassen Pompoko", or POM POKO: The Raccoon War, by Studio Ghibli. The film won the Feature Film award at the 1995 Annecy International Animation Festival in France.
