Seto Ohashi, which crosses over the middle of the Seto Inland Sea, is the collective term for six smaller bridges. However, these bridges are all connected across a strait that alone reaches an impressive 9.4km in length. It is the world's longest dual purpose bridge that carries both motorway and railway traffic.
Seto Ohashi was the first bridge to connect Shikoku and Honshu, and was made using the best available bridge building technology of the time. The bridge is a passageway for traffic of the Seto Ohashi Railway Line and the Seto Chuo Expressway, connecting Okayama Prefecture and Kagawa Prefecture in Shikoku.
As a single continuous bridge, the longest dual purpose bridge to carry both road and railway traffic is the Tsing Ma Bridge in Hong Kong. It has an overall length of 2,200 meters, with the span of the main body being 1,377 meters.
