Shodoshima, the second
largest island in the Seto Naikai, or Inland Sea, and located to the
northeast of Shikoku, has the world's narrowest strait.
Though it looks like one solid island, Shodoshima actually consists of two islands divided by a strait. The narrowest part of the strait is merely 9.93 meter wide. It looks like a stream, however seawater runs through it.
Shodoshima is one of the must-see spots in the Inland Sea. It has
many places to visit such as Kankakei, a famous viewpoint for tinted
autumn leaves, and the Olive Garden.
Incidentally, the Dobuchi strait of Shodoshima island was authorized
by Guinness Book of Records as narrowest strait in the world. |
